What an honour: Ekka crowned a Queensland Great
The Royal Queensland Show has been crowned a Queensland Great by Premier David Crusafulli at the Queensland Day 2026 Awards.
The Queensland Greats Awards honour the trailblazing people and institutions who have left a lasting legacy for Queensland’s identity and future.
RNA President David Thomas said to be recognised as a Queensland Great, in the Ekka’s 150th year, was incredibly special for the RNA.
“Since 1876, the Ekka has brought Queenslanders together – celebrating our people, our industries, and our way of life – and this honour reflects Show’s welcoming spirit and enduring contribution to Queensland for generations,” Mr Thomas said.
“The Ekka belongs to Queenslanders—it’s their stories, their traditions, and their spirit that have built this legacy, and this award is a celebration of that incredible shared history and a reminder of the important role the Show continues to play uniting the city and the country.”
For 150 years the Ekka has brought more than 35 million Queenslanders together, embodying the spirit, values and future of the state.
Thank you to everyone who has been part of this remarkable journey.
Ekka is not just a Show. It is Queensland, on show.
